Curtain UpMusical Theatre for a tennerThrowaway presents an evening for musical theatre lovers everywhere – exclusive pre-Edinburgh Fringe previews of two exciting one act musicals and an open mic night spot - all for a tenner!
Whether a performer or simply someone who is crazy about musical theatre, this evening promises two fascinating and quirky musicals – LaChiusa’s Lucky Nurse and selected sections of the Off-Broadway hit, The Musical of Musicals – The Musical!
Composed by the acclaimed writer of The Wild Party, Lucky Nurse’s musical vignettes examine modern miracles in contemporary America, where ordinary lives turn extraordinary in a series of short tales that are by turns poignant and darkly comic. And for a slice of showbiz razzle dazzle, The Musical of Musicals affectionately sends up show from Rodgers and Hammerstein to Lloyd Webber in a riotous cocktail of great gags and musical pastiches.
Between the two performances we will be hosting ‘Sing Out, Louise!’, Throwaway’s open mic slot where anyone with a song in their heart belt out their favourite show tunes, to the professional piano accompaniment of our production musical director. Alternatively, more shy visitors will relish the chance to challenge our on hand theatre composer in ‘Yell Us A Tune’ – the hilarious game where brand new songs are written in minutes about anything and everything audience members shout out. In short, Curtain Up is the perfect night out for musical theatre fans everywhere.
