Lucky Nurse and Other Short Musical Plays (2008)

Words & Music by Michael John LaChiusa

By arrangement with Josef Weinberger Limited

Two construction workers receive an unexpected visit from the Virgin Mary. A woman goes to her nearby park in search of heaven. A dead man causes chaos in an apartment block. A nurse adopts an abandoned baby named Jesus Christ.

Four ordinary American lives turn extraordinary in this darkly comic cycle of short musical plays. Featuring intelligent music and lyrics by Michael John LaChiusa, five-time Tony nominated composer of The Wild Party.

Making good on our promise to sniff out the best little-known works by Broadway’s most celebrated composers, Throwaway gives Edinburgh audiences the chance to see this exciting early work by an innovative songwriter.

Directed by Russ Hope, Artistic Director of Throwaway, and Director of the company’s previous acclaimed production of The Fix.

“If you see one musical at this year’s Fringe, make it this one.”
***** Forth One on The Fix (2005)

“a revelatory experience... gorgeous and moving”
Mark Shenton, The Stage on The Last Five Years (directed by Russ Hope for Echo Productions)
